For the first ever, Earth Club of North South University has taken the initiative of a Competitive Green Initiative, an idea generation competition titled “Champions of Earth”, in short, COE. After the tremendous success of the recent giveaway event, “A tree for Free”, Earth Club of NSU has now come forward to bring all the young planeteers on one platform.This competition is dedicated to the young students belonging to Universities and Colleges (H.S.C/ A level) who will be provided with environmental problems that have to be dealt with nationally and globally, and will be asked to devise fruitful strategies in battling them.COE is aimed at enabling the participants to develop ideas for sustainable solutions for dealing with environmental degradation but at the same time raising awareness about these environmental issues among the youth.
The online registration process for the event was launched on16th November, 2014 and the competition was declared open for all students belonging to Universities and Colleges. A registration booth was set up at the North South University (NSU) on the 20th of November and the on-campus registration, as well as the online registration, is to continue till 27th November. An orientation and workshop will be held for the participants on the 28th of November, followed by which will be an online concept note submission round. The selected participants will then move through to the 2nd round, a presentation round, followed by the Grand Finale in which only some of the top selected teams will participate.
The total prize money for the event is announced to be Tk. 1, 00,000 and the event is being powered by WaterAid. The Co-Sponsor for the event is UCB and the strategic partner for the event is GBG. Base camp is the excursion partner for COE, with Channel i as media partner, Radio Shadhin as radio partner and Dhaka Tribune as print media partner.
The faculty advisor and the Chair of Department of Environmental Science and Management, Md. Jakariya, Ph.D has been supporting the club with its endeavors throughout. Members of Earth Club has been working relentlessly for days and nights to make this event successful. The event will continue till mid-December and we are looking forward to the biggest environmental idea generation battle ever, in Bangladesh.
