Since its start, Earth Club of North South University has been pioneering its way through perceptive changes and behavioral approach. Its been 20 years to its initiation and the members of this innovative club has come together at the grand event ‘Encounters 9’ to summarize their dedication to environment over the years.
“ENCOUNTERS” is an exhibition based on an environmental theme where photos taken by the members befitting the theme are exhibited on a setup displaying the concern in question. Each year, Earth Club attracts thousands of students with this breathtaking event. In the ninth season of its signature event, the theme is ‘20 Years of Making a Difference’, in which the members of Earth Club portrayed the hard work done in the last 20 years to spread awareness on environment.
The event was a 3D exhibition starting from the 3rd to 11th of March, which provided an incredible ‘flash back’ to the works of the club. Earth Club initiated in 1996 and since then has been a pioneer to many environmental awareness raising projects and programs focusing on youth and students. From Environmental Competitions to Eco-trips and Annual Publications among its yearly programs, the Club has brought out different events in collaboration with organizations like JICA, KOICA, BRAC Kanon and many more. Green in a bottle Campaign has been yet another new and promising addition to its projects to which 4Matters stands as a proud partner.
‘Encounters 9’ brought up all the causes in the environmental sector the Club has been standing for all these years. The members went through days of hard work creating paintings, artistic structures and fun photo booth giving the NSU Recreation Hall a whole new makeover in tone with the theme. Honorable Minister for Road, Transport and Bridges, Mr. Obaidul Quader and Honorable State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources were present on the initiation of the event. The respected Ministers of Bangladesh along with Mr. Nasrul Hamid Bipu, Chairman to Board of Trustees, NSU, Mr. M. A. Kashem and Mr. Benazir Ahmed, Member of Board of Trustees at NSU, inaugurated the program.
This time the event had some special and unique features that made it quite different from the ‘Encounters’ held in the past years! ‘Encounters’ is usually a close event viewable only to the students of the university. This time the Club opened its event up to the public through providing easy-to-access open online passes. The photo of the passes were provided on the event page. Anyone appearing with a print of it was given access to the exhibition from 11am to 5pm. Besides this, the event also held a fun ‘Selfie Competition’ for its visitors.
‘Encounters 9’ has been a review of the successes and growth of Earth Club. Its journey of the past gives the view of a promisingly constructive future.
