Finding the Potential Green Tech Maker: IUB’s National Project Competition On Green Energy and Technology

Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) is encouraging the talents in college and university level to bring about and showcase their ideas on green technology. Their competition, National Project Competition On Green Energy & Technology, is in one way, a potential platform that may bring about the greatest green techs to save Earth and on the other, a stimulus to spark thinking in green innovation and technology among the youth of the country.

The idea of the competition was the brainchild of Green Research Center under The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, IUB. The center is a hub for research and innovation in energy efficient technologies and also provide knowledgeable solutions to integrate sustainable energy systems at all scales.

The competition is inviting projects through an online application where the students have to submit a PDF file containing relevant schematic diagrams and a picture of the prototype by 24 March 2016. The students will be notified by 28 March and the final exhibit is on 31 March 2016. Students from college and university will form teams of at most three members and register through a reasonable fee of BDT 200 only after acceptance of the project. The project will focus on certain given topics and will be judged on the exhibit day on the basis of the novelty of the project, economic feasibility of the project, presentation skills and question and answer.

In an online query regarding the final exhibit, coordinator Zaima Tasneem informs us “The event will be a daylong event wherein the guests can enjoy a number of activities including project showcasing as the main event. The winners will get BDT 1,00,000 in University category and BDT 50,000 in College category. The energy advisor to the Prime Minister, Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury will be the expected chief guest of the program.” There is prize money for first and second runner-ups in both the levels of college and varsity as well.

The program is being sponsored by “Shaheed Khalek & Major Salek Bir Uttam Trust” which works for the improvement of student interest in renewable energy technologies.

The program is a an eminent opportune platform for all those ideas tingling in the nerves of  ‘normal’( and unknowingly talented) young minds. This competition is the time to bring those ideas out and prepare to introduce them to a potential future. While the future awaits to find its potential climate saver!
